The Family History of Ulysses S Grant | Ulysses S Grant Genealogy

Ulysses S. Grant was the commander of Union forces during the Civil War. At the time of his election as President, he was the most popular man in America. As President, he established Yellowstone as our first National Park. Prior to his death, Mark Twain published his autobiography, which was perhaps the most successful of all presidential autobiographies. Ulysses S. Grant was born on April 27, 1822 in Point Pleasant, Clermont County, Ohio.

His parents were Jesse Root Grant and Hannah Simpson. Grant shares a common descent from Jonathan Delano with presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Calvin Coolidge. He also shares a common descent from Samuel Grant and Mary Porter with presidents Grover Cleveland and Gerald Ford.

Grant is also descended from Francis Cooke and Richard Warren, both Mayflower passengers. Like numerous other presidents, Grant is descended from Charlemagne and William “the Conqueror.”
