MATTHEWS, William, a Representative from Maryland; born in Cecil County, Md., April 26, 1755; judge of Cecil County Court in 1778, 1780, and 1782-1786; member of the State general assembly 1786-1789; elected as a Federalist to the Fifth Congress (March 4, 1797-March 3, 1799); died in 1808c; interment in family graveyard, Cecil County, Md.
